Democracy or
Ammacrazy?
When you see the photographs of grownup men and women of
Tamil Nadu wailing, weeping sobbing and breast-beating over their Amma’s
imprisonment following her conviction on charges of corruption, one wonders
what planet are these people from. Even the new Chief Minister Panneerselvam
(a.k.a Kanneerselvam) and his Ministers were so full of ‘Kanneer’ that they
could hardly read the papers and utter their pledges.
It is obvious that these children of Tamil Nadu had no clue
about what democracy is all about. To them the System is nothing other than
Ammacrazy. They could not care less that she was a criminal who looted the
country and was justly indicted and proven guilty by due process in a court of
law, according to the Constitution of India. Unable to accept the reality of a just
democratic process, these children (who look like grownups) resort to grieving,
threatening Kannadigas, and self-destructive behaviors. It is obvious that
these people looked up to Amma as their savior. The question is, who was Amma
saving these children from?
Well, you guessed it: She was saving them from even greater
evil than herself: Corrupt politicians and bureaucrats of Congress Party and
their allies, who were looting the country more skillfully than Muhammads of
Ghazni and Ghor. Besides, Congress Party had given Amma a blue print of how to
loot the country by the examples of Indira Gandhi, Sanjay Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi,
Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi and their allies such as Lallu Prasad Yadav, and
other cronies. Amma learned her lessons well. So what if she looted a few
hundred crores? Congress Party people looted thousands of crores.
It is obvious that these children of Amma are living in the
times of Raja Raja Chola. I can imagine how, upon the death of this great
monarch, thousands of people took to the streets crying, sobbing, screaming and
breast-beating. What does it tell you about our people when, 67 years after
India became independent, they are recreating a scene that probably occurred
1000 years ago?
These are ancient people living in 21st
century.
